Afternoon tea
Afternoon tea has a festive theme in The Salon at Blythswood Square.

Storm Caroline threatens snow and high winds for the next three days. We’re taking shelter with festive afternoon tea at these five star hotels in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

In Glasgow’s Blythswood Square, Executive head chef Zoltan Szabo has created a special afternoon tea with festive flare.

Guests can enjoy a gingerbread Rudolph biscuit; egg nog snowman macaron; mulled cranberry and Madirofolo chocolate tart plus a Clementine and ginger-scented choux bun with Christmas tree topper.

Price is £32 per person. A glass of Champagne can be added on for an additional £11.

Their limited edition afternoon tea is served in The Salon at Blythswood. Visitors will lounge in Harris Tweed chairs while enjoying the hotel’s luxurious Christmas decorations.

And, if you are looking for an elegant Christmas present, The Salon has a Big Deal on its traditional afternoon tea.

The £49 Big Deal gives two people afternoon tea. A £69 option adds a glass of Champagne for both guests. The offer is valid from 26th December to the end of February 2018. Buy it here.

Afternoon tea at the Caley

On the other side of the M8, The Caledonian Peacock Alley in the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh has also launched its festive afternoon tea.

Their limited edition experience includes treats such as orange Christmas morning scones; gingerbread macarons; Christmas pudding mousse and a Dominostein cake, a German favourite.

A sumptuous mulled wine dome, handcrafted by the hotel’s expert team of chefs, crowns the top tier of the tea stand.

It can all be accompanied by a Christmas cocktail of Grand Marnier and Prosecco. It is blended with a sugar infusion of cinnamon, cloves and star anise plus an orange and cranberry garnish.

Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh received over 150 entries for its competition on Facebook to name the cocktail. The winning name was The Twinkle in Santa’s Eye.

Prices start at £35 per person and you can book in via 5pm Dining.

We are also running a Big Deal on a luxurious spa day at the Guerlain Spa in the hotel. It includes a facial, a massage and a glass of Prosecco for one along with a spa day pass. It would make a very special Christmas present.

Afternoon tea goes festive at One Square

A short sleigh ride away, One Square on Festival Square is serving their take on a Christmas afternoon tea.

You can see the full menu here. We like the sound of the Norfolk turkey on thyme bread plus the bitter chocolate and marmalade Christmas cupcake.

Obviously. we’re saving space for the chocolate spice Yule log.
