First up, the BrewDog bad boys are launching their second bar in Edinburgh today.

Seven years after the launch of their first Edinburgh BrewDog bar on the Cowgate, the Ellon-based firm are opening on Lothian Road.

A former Clydesdale bank site has been converted into a bar offering 25 draught taps.

As well as a BottleDog for takeaway sales, the new unit will sell BrewDog’s full burger and wings menu plus weekend brunch.

A hop, skip and a jump away, on Bread Street, Monboddo have changed their food menu.

New additions include a range of quesadillas, thin crust pizza and sharing nachos which can be augmented with a range of toppings including haggis and Cajun chicken.

New restaurant in Glasgow
New restaurants in Edinburgh: today BrewDog are opening the doors to their second Edinburgh bar on Lothian Road.

Vegan menu

Incidentally, their sister restaurant, The Bread Street Brasserie, is taking bookings for its monthly vegan dinner on Wednesday 7th February.

The main courses include sous vide king oyster mushrooms with potato gnocchi and an asparagus and cashew nut pesto and a grilled falafel carrot burger with baked herb and garlic potato wedges and an avocado dip.

New restaurants in Glasgow

Motoring over the M8, we have a handful of new restaurants in Glasgow.

First up, La Boca on Hope Street has closed. If all goes to plan, the venue will re-open in February as a steak and burger place called The Drunken Cow.

If we cross over the Clyde and make tracks for Shawlands, we understand that a new bar is taking shape in the former Ketchup premises on Pollokshaws Road.

According to their Facebook page, Phillies of Shawlands will be ‘an independent neighbourhood bar that champions the local community. Passionate about paying a real Living Wage and playing vinyl records’.

We are less certain of our facts about this next one. However, we hear that a new venture is coming together on Helena Place, just off Busby Road in Clarkston.

We are happy to be corrected about this but we understand that the owners of Loks Bar and Kitchen on Newlandsfield Road are involved. More news as we get it.

Fancy a rasta pasta?

Moving onto firmer ground, Manjaros is a new African/Caribbean fusion restaurant which is preparing to open in Springfield Quay.

When they open the doors, diners can tuck into waka waka chicken, chicken rasta pasta and flambé lamb chops.

As always, keep tuning into the 5pm Dining blog for all the latest on new restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
