Singl-end Breakfast is a thing of beauty at Singl-end. Pic: Facebook.

The news that Singl-end is opening a second branch in the Merchant City is the artisan charcuterie in the gourmet sandwich of today's blog post.

The popular breakfast, brunch and lunch spot has long been popular on Renfrew Street.

Riding high on that success, a second branch opens today at 15 John Street.

The unit previously housed Mi Casa and, if memory serves, it was Piazza Italia before that.

The new Singl-end looks to be running the same menu as its Garnethill sibling.

This means you could start the day with organic porridge or the house-baked granola.

Of course, they also offer eggs done several ways.

The eggs Florentine may have many admirers but we only have eyes for the baked meaty eggs - a sort of casserole which features pork and fennel sausages, cannellini beans and tomato.

Frankly, if that's not the breakfast of champions then we don't know what is.

Although having said that, the Singl-end meaty breakfast is very tempting. Naturally, veggie and vegan versions are also available.

Singl-end: stunning sarnies

As the clock moves towards lunch, the sandwich selection comes into its own.

Customers are invited to choose from seven different breads ranging from sourdough to sweet potato and almond.

Bread chosen, you're faced with the difficult decision of how to top/fill it. Options range from the smoked ham hough and Cheddar toastie to hot smoked salmon with a poached egg and creme fraiche.

Or you could look towards the Middle East for inspiration and order up the sesame-coated falafel with hummus and pickled onions on flatbread.

There are smoothies, teas, coffees and assorted softies to quench your thirst.

Or you order up a cheeky cocktail. Choose from Dark and Stormy, Bloody Mary or the house Bramble Gin Fizz.

And we haven't even mentioned the cakes.

No promises but, at the time of writing, the weather forecast is promising. The outside area at the new Singl-end seats 60 and the tables are on a first-come-first-served basis.

If the sun makes an appearance we recommend that you get there early.
