We were treated to an afternoon tea at Cranachan in Princes Square Glasgow recently, and what an afternoon tea it was. The reviews from previous 5pm diners are certainly accurate, as 5pm diner Ann says:

"My friend and I went to Cranachan for Afternoon Tea and it was a treat from start to finish. The 5pm deal included a glass each of (practically) free Prosecco which was beautifully chilled and served with a fresh raspberry. We had a choice of sandwiches which all sounded delicious and a good choice of teas. Our server was really helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. When she brought the food we couldn't believe how many sandwiches were included along with a great selection of cakes. Everything was really fresh and tasty. We were able to take home what we didn't manage to eat. Fantastic value for money."

You can book Cranachan's afternoon tea for £18.95 including a glass of pink fizz on 5pm Dining.

Unlike many afternoon teas, as Ann above says, you get a choice of sandwiches with the Cranachan version. You can pick any three from the following:

  • Scottish smoked salmon, rocket and dill mayonnaise
  • Egg mayonnaise with mustard cress
  • Roast breast of chicken, roasted peppers, rocket and tarragon mayonnaise
  • Mull of Kintyre cheddar with seasonal chutney
  • Roast Scottish beef, beetroot, red onion and horseradish mayonnaise

We went from the latter three options and as you can see from the picture below, they don't scrimp on the portion!

Don't fill up too much on sandwiches though as an array of sweet treats await.

The middle tier contains sweet treats of the cake based variety including carrot and pistachio cake and lemon and blueberry sponge (below).

Also on this tier is the chocolate and peanut butter stack - mouthwatering (below).

And still more goodness to come. As expected with an afternoon tea, you get scones served with Chantilly cream and raspberry jam. Cute French macaroons also add to the sugar rush (below).

True to its name sake, the afternoon tea also includes miniature Cranachan desserts.

To compliment your sweet and savoury treats, you can pick from a variety of Suki Loose Leaf Teas plus all the usual coffee options. On the 5pm offer you can also get a glass of pink fizz with your afternoon tea.
