The Carlton George Hotel in Glasgow is celebrating its tenth decade in May and is marking the occasion by offering ten of its rooms at £10 a night on Sunday 17 May.

To enter the draw for a one night stay, email your name and contact details to sales@george.carltonhotels.co.uk by the deadline of 10 May.  The first 10 names drawn on 11 May will be the lucky winners.

The seventh floor Windows restaurant in the hotel is a 5pm member and there is plenty of info about the rooftop dining room’s menus here.

In other news, Whisky Month gets underway tomorrow as the Spirit of Speyside festival kicks off. Spirit of the West and Feis Ile, the Islay festival of music and malt, take up the baton later in the month.

Sticking with the dram plan, six of Glasgow’s bars have been accredited as Scotch Whisky Embassies and marketed as the Whisky Bars of Glasgow. The criteria are that they all have a whopping range of whisky including single malts, blends and rare bottlings; staff trained in whisky appreciation and a real passion for Scotch whisky. Their website includes a downloadable map to help you navigate your way around them. Could be quite handy for anyone attempting all six of an evening.

The six bars are Uisge Beatha, the Lismore, the Bon Accord, Ben Nevis, The Pot Still and 5pm member Oran Mor.
