I’m probably not the only person whose eyes watered a wee bit this morning upon reading a story in the Metro about the hottest chillies known to man.

According to Marcel de Wit, the Australian who is producing said chillies, ‘People with a heart condition or breathing problems and children aren’t allowed anywhere near them’. He then went on to add, unconvincingly, ‘But they’re great for cooking’. Good to know…

If you consider yourself as a bit of a spice demon, but draw the line at potentially fatal chillies, perhaps try these restaurants to get some spice in your life: Ashoka Shak Livingston, Koolba, Red Chillies or either Suruchi Restaurant or Suruchi Too.
