Edinburgh’s tram works are a controversial issue and I have no intention of fully opening that can of worms here. However, it was hard not to have a wry smile at this tale in The Scotsman.

The first in a small chain of tram-themed cafes following the route of the city’s trams has gone to the great tramyard in the sky less than a year after opening and at least two years before the trams start running.

The cafe closed with the owners blaming disruption caused by the tram works in the street outside.

Perhaps they should have taken a leaf from the book of Chu Chus, the railway station restaurant in West Kilbride that opened in 2007 on the long established Glasgow-Largs line.
