Men, look away now. There is nothing to see here so just move along. Or cut to the bottom of the entry.

All clear? Bloke-free zone? OK. Afternoon tea is already pretty girly but the Exchange Bar in Edinburgh’s Sheraton have taken things to a whole new pinkies out level. Their latest whiz bang idea is a Flower Afternoon Tea which runs every day until 31 May.

An afternoon tea with a flowery twist, their £16.95 menu is a petal-packing, pollen-dusted affair that includes violet Eton mess, jasmine shortbread, rose and white chocolate bavarois, bee pollen and raspberry tart, and elderflower panna cotta. Lavender, plain and fruit scones are served with Devonshire clotted cream and a selection of preserves.

Even the sarnies have cut in on the flower action with choices that include poached salmon and lemon mayonnaise on chive blossom scone, oven roast chicken with caper and aioli on rosemary focaccia, and tomato, mozzarella and pesto in a saffron spiced roll.

Probably not a great idea for hayfever sufferers but as a pitstop on an all girls shopping expedition, it just might fit the bill.

A Glasgow alternative might be Fifi and Ally where the tea options include pots of Jasmine Fairy and Little Princess. The latter is described as a ‘blossom tea of globemarantha and chrysanthemum flowers’.

Alright lads, it’s safe now. Assuming that jasmine shortbread hasn’t got you drooling then you might prefer the Sheraton’s Santini restaurant which doesn’t do flowers but is big on Italian dishes like the grilled Scottish beef fillet with Barolo butter and country style potatoes.
