Time for a brisk salute to the The Captain’s Galley at Scrabster in Caithness. The twenty seat restaurant has just netted the prestigious title of Seafood Restaurant of the Year at the Seafood Awards in London.

Set in a converted icehouse and salmon bothy, the family-run restaurant uses fish landed at the jetty which sits 50 metres from the Galley’s front door.

For most of this blog’s readers, Caithness may be a little out of the way to be an option for tonight’s supper so here are some 5pm Central Belt alternatives.

Agua and Skerries in Edinburgh both know one end of a fish from another while Glasgow’s seafood nets are bursting at the seams thanks to An Lochan, Bouzy Rouge Seafood and Grill, Gamba, Gandolfi Fish, the Mussel Inn and the Two Fat Ladies family.
