The Central Belt’s ever active curry merchants means that Indian food gets regular mentions in this blog. But it’s not just us. There is something so thought-provoking about the stuff that seldom a week goes by without a new curry related survey being released and the results rippling out across the media.

A recent press release came up with the less than earth-shattering revelation that from study of 1,185 people, 92% of Brits say that they feel ‘happier’ after eating a takeaway. You don’t really need the investigative powers of the CSI squad to figure that one out. People are hungry. They eat and then they feel happier. Who’d have thought?

More interesting is their idea that eating spicy food can relieve stress as it makes your body release endorphins or feel-good hormones. The active ingredient that makes this happen is thought to be capsaicin, the substance that gives chillies their kick.

I wouldn’t bet much on the rigour of the press release’s scientific methods but they reckon that the top five stress-busting curries are:

1   Chicken/Beef Madras

2   Vindaloo

3   Thai red curry

4   Pasanda

5   Jalfrezi

That seems good enough reason to me to hit your nearest curry house but, if you need more convincing, this Daily Mail article reckons that eating curry can actually make you lose weight. Move over broccoli and get lost acai berries. It seems that curry is the new superfood.
