In Scotland, giving suggestions on where to eat outside is always done more in hope than expectation. Looking out of my window shortly after 9am, I can barely see the other side of the street for fog. There aren’t kids in the back gardens making rude snowmen but it is fairly parky. The BBC reckons that I’m in for light drizzle. Hailstorms wouldn’t be a complete surprise.

By way of contrast, this article in the Daily Mail details ways of coping with the heat wave which we are supposed to sweating under. Wear cotton underwear, listen to Mozart and eat watercress are among the more sane suggestions.

It is a worrying thought but, if we assume that the Daily Mail is right, then we could be in for a brief window of opportunity to eat outside. A light lunch in the sunshine, washed down by a glass of rose and spiced up by passing comment on the dress sense of those walking by has to be better than chowing down on a sweaty sarnie illuminated only by the glow of this Times piece on Twelve Fab Foodie Experiences.

Glasgow has plenty of 5pm restaurants that cater for al fresco munchers: Fifi and Ally, Pintxo, Rogano, The Social and Tuscan Square fit the bill.

Edinburgh isn’t too badly off either with Amicus Apple, Gusto, The Granary, Tempus, The Living Room, Iggs and Malmaison all featuring outside seating.
