The sun is out, the nights are long and it’s Friday. It doesn’t get much better than that. This weekend has the potential to be a real blast as today is the first day of Glasgow’s West End Festival. The big event is Festival Sunday when the Mardi Gras spirit will erupt in Kelvingrove Park. Look out for samba bands, costume groups and live music.

Many of the West End’s bars and restaurants are getting in on the action with live bands, drinks promos and meal deals. There are lots of 5pm member restaurants getting involved in the festivities over the next fortnight but my eye was caught by a couple of events in Brel. On Monday 15 and 22 June, the Ashton Lane bar is hosting a tutored gin tasting and on Tuesday 16, they run a Belgian beer tasting. Enjoy.
