Whether they are frazzling the bangers at their courtyard barbecues or having a knees-up at their Friday ceilidhs, there is seldom a dull day at Glasgow’s venerable Sloans.

Since it opened as a coffee house way back in 1797, the premises have witnessed many a family occasion and even a fair number of cock fights, an activity which the licensing board has frowned up on in more recent centuries.

For all its colourful past, Sloans will still be venturing into new territory this Thursday when it launches the Electric Soup Cabaret. A monthly mix of theatre, music and puppetry to be held in the ballroom, it will feature the extravagantly named entertainers Vendetta Vain, Lucille Burn and the master of ceremonies, Rufus T Fahrenheit. A trio of mini-burgers, home-made coleslaw and fries will feed the belly while the performers feed the soul. Or at least provide the eye candy.

Apparently, Ms Vain was a finalist in Bizarre Magazine’s UK wide hunt for the Queen of British Burlesque so the show should be an eye-opener.

Tickets for Sloans Electric Soup Cabaret are £19.95. The evening starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available on the door and in advance.

As an aside, the burgers come from Sloans Vegas Sliders menu. ‘Sliders’ were a new one to me until this article in the Las Vegas Weekly set me on the right path.
