It’s been a few years in development but the much anticipated Missoni hotel opened this week on the corner of the Royal Mile and George IV Bridge in Edinburgh. It’s the first in a proposed chain of Missoni hotels with the next one planned to open in Kuwait.

The building used to house city council departments and had the sort of squat looks that would have had Prince Charles muttering about carbuncles. Having sprinkled some Italian style dust over proceedings, the Missoni fashion and design house have managed to turn it into something rather chic.

The restaurant is called La Cucina. It has around a hundred seats and sits on the first floor of the hotel. As you might expect, Italian flavours are very much to the fore with dishes such as risotto made with Barolo and Castelmagno cheese; seabass baked with a salt crust and roast rabbit served with polenta and radicchio.

Right in the heart of Edinburgh, it’s a location which is well served with eating out options. The following 5pm members are all within a five minute walk: Agua, Amber, Hotel Du Vin, Olive Branch, Le Sept, The Bridge and The Tower.
