Scotland’s employers can expect a dramatic fall off in productivity rates this afternoon as Andy Murray takes to the centre court in Wimbledon. If he beats the American Andy Roddick then he will, presumably, face Federer in the final on Sunday afternoon.

Murray is about 4/1 on to beat Roddick and 11/4 to actually lift the trophy on Sunday. The odds on the nation’s bars and cafes being full of skiving workers this afternoon are considerably more skinny.

Glasgow’s G1 Group has got into the swing of things with a number of Wimbledon related promos. The Loft, Social Southside, Cricklewood, Salon, Byre and Committee Room Number 9 are all doing strawberries, cream and a glass of champagne for £6.95. Apparently, The Loft has seen large crowds gathered around the screens every time the ball basher of Dunblane plays a match.

In Edinburgh, 5pm member the Golf Tavern is showing all of Murray’s matches and expects a big turnout for the 1pm start of the match.

Possibly the biggest crowd outside of Murray Mound (the Wimbledon spot formerly known as Henman Hill) will be at the Festival Square in Edinburgh where a giant screen will be showing the action. As was earlier noted here, the Exchange Bar in the adjacent Sheraton is hosting a strawberry fiesta during Wimbledon. Should Murray triumph then you can score with a celebratory meal at these nearby 5pm members: The Atrium, Blue, Abstract, the Rutland, Zucca and The Pompadour in the Caley.
