A Taste of Spain is touching down on The Mound in Edinburgh this weekend. A celebration of Spanish food, culture and lifestyle, it opens today to coincide with the National Galleries launching their summer exhibition, The Discovery of Spain.

Seven Spanish regions will be represented at the festival – Andalucía, the Balearic Islands, Valencia , Castilla y León , Galicia , Madrid and Murcia. Each region will bring its finest local foods and wines for tastings including Ibérico ham, cheeses, wines and sherry.

As well as Spanish food, there will be flamenco from Andalucía, contemporary dance from Murcia and, more unexpectedly, roller-skating from Madrid. Look out for the giant paella which is being cooked up on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is free and it runs from 4pm to 8pm today and from midday to 8pm on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July.

If a nibble of jamon and a little glass of manzanilla puts you in the mood for a Spanish feast then, as ever, 5pm can help. In Edinburgh, Iggs, Café Andaluz and Tapa can all turn a meal into a fiesta. In Glasgow, Arta, Barca, El Sabor, La Tasca, Las Ramblas, Pintxo, Tapas International, Torres and two branches of Café Andaluz can help you remember your last Spanish holiday.
