The Southern Fried Festival is taking place in Perth this weekend. With a line-up that includes Lucinda Williams, Los Lobos and Diana Jones, it’s proof that there is a lot more to country music than ten gallon Stetsons singing songs such as Is My Ring Too Tight For Your Finger?

There is an interesting event taking place on the food front on Sunday. Peggy Brunache, who blogs here, will be hosting a Soul Food brunch in Perth Concert Hall. Tickets cost a tenner and, along with suitable grub, the event promises to trace the evolution of soul food from its origins in slave cuisine and explores the deep links between black music and culture and food.
