Could Travis Bickle improve your baking skills?

Apparently gravel-voiced singer Bob Dylan is at the centre of a bidding war with sat-nav companies desperate to sign up his dulcet tones to give directions on their machines. You can do your own gags that riff on the theme of how many roads a man must drive down before he gets to Northampton but it got me thinking about what celeb voices would be best for recipe podcasts.

We’ve all heard the celeb chefs do recipes on TV and radio and, while I wouldn’t mind Nigella purring in my ear, I wouldn’t particularly want to be bawled out by old purple face Ramsay while I’m trying to get my soufflé to rise.

It would be much more fun to have other non-chef, pop culture figures do the voice-overs. Alan Carr would be great for meringues: ‘Beat your whites into stiff standing peaks’. Clint Eastwood would be good on oven temperatures: ‘The question you gotta ask yourself is: do I have a fan oven or a top and bottom heater? It could make all the difference to this sponge cake. Do you feel lucky or are you gonna read the manual?’ Obviously, I’d pay good money to hear Barack Obama cooking: ‘Thanksgiving turkey! Can we do it? Yes, we can!’

Which celebs would you like to hear reading which recipes?
