The effects of climate change are unlikely to be pretty but we should always search for a glimmer of hope among the storm clouds. Hence this report from The Telegraph in which a group of French food and wine producers fret that Scotland rather than France may soon have the better wine-making climate.

My favourite quote comes right at the end when an Orkney woman who runs a fruit and flower wine shop gives the idea short shrift. ‘It’s too windy for a start,’ says one Roxanne Canvan Schayk. Translated, this means ‘Why the Hell are you journalists phoning me and putting me off my work with your daft ideas? Growing grapes in Scotland? You’re a loon. Go away.’
