This is a fun story in The Times about an English restaurant opening in Bologna. Vito Cataffo was born in Italy but moved to England as a baby. After a lifetime in the catering trade in Britain, he has decided to introduce the inhabitants of one of Italy’s most food obsessed cities to the delights of prawn cocktail, Shepherd’s pie and apple crumble. Mr Cataffo’s food quest is being filmed by C4 for a programme called, perhaps inevitably, Dolce Vito. It’s broadcast next Thursday.

I wish him luck but if the Italians are anything like the French then he may well have his work cut out. I lived in France for a short time and British food was a constant source of amusement to my chums. They could just about get their head around ‘rosbif’ but Yorkshire ‘pooding’ had them rolling on the floor crying tears of laughter.
