I’m spending this morning at Martin Wishart’s Cook School in what is politely known as a Media Challenge and impolitely as a hacks’ slam down.

In order to promote VisitScotland’s Perfect Experiences campaign, a group (a gaggle, a guzzle? What would be a good collective term?) of food journalists is meeting at Mr Wishart’s to be shown how to cook a cheese souffle followed by a saffron and shellfish broth.

Having seen how it’s done properly, we will then try to recreate the chef’s magic touch for ourselves.

Whichever inky-fingered scribbler produces the best two dishes gets a meal for two at Martin Wishart’s restaurant.

As you can imagine, competition is likely to be fierce if not terribly competent. Stay tuned for an update later today when I’ll either be crowing about my victory or failing to sound gracious in defeat.
