The 5pm team was saddened to hear of Keith Floyd’s death last night. A pioneer among TV chefs, he blazed a trail, usually with a glass in hand, for many of today’s best known pot-bashers.
A larger than life character, he led an eventful life marked by failed restaurants, broken marriages and many ill-judged if often entertaining outbursts. While he may not have been the easiest person to work or live with, he was never boring and, in his TV shows, he always demonstrated the Devil may care attitude which is the badge of the true bon viveur.
In a remarkable coincidence, he died on the evening in which C4 broadcast a typically colourful interview with the man.
