The blog met up with Glasgow restaurateur Mario Romano last week and got an impromptu tour of his imminent Mediterraneo restaurant.

Taking shape on Ingram Street, the 200 cover restaurant is bound to make ripples when it splashes down on Glasgow’s restaurant scene in around a fortnight or so.

The restaurant is Mr Romano’s 37th project in and around Glasgow and looks set to be one of his more spectacular offerings.

The venture’s champagne and oyster bar will probably capture the headlines but the Italian cooking will be the backbone of the large scale operation.

If you can’t wait that long, there are plenty of nearby 5pm members with a taste for Italian cooking.

Arta, Esca, L’Ariosto, Lombardi’s, Piazza Italia, Qua Italia, Soho, Trattoria Gia and Tuscan Square all spring to mind.
