This weekend marks the beginning of the Scottish Food Fortnight. For the next two weeks home-grown food and drink will be in the spotlight thanks to a series of events designed to make us choose to put locally sourced food on our forks.

One of the highlights is the Dundee Flower and Food Festival taking place in the city’s Camperdown Park this weekend. As well as local produce stalls and piping hot smokies from Iain Spinks’ on-site smoking barrels, there are plenty of chefs’ demos lined up. Nick Nairn is undoubtedly the best known of the pan-wranglers on display but other chefs such as Geoffrey Smeddle of The Peat Inn, Charles Lockley of Boath House and Ryan Young of Perth’s Opus One also have plenty of kitchen tips and tricks to share.

On the other side of the country, The Ubiquitous Chip is getting in on the action with a whisky-themed, three course dinner at £15.95. Choices on the menu include a starter of cock-a-leekie soup with Old Pulteney flavoured prunes and corn-fed chicken with pearl barley, wild mushrooms and a Cragganmore Sauce
