The new restaurant action is all taking place in Glasgow at the moment. This week, Monir Mohammed, the man behind the Mother India group of restaurants, unveiled his latest baby. Following in the footsteps of his Dining In deli and restaurant in Bearsden, he has opened a new branch in Kelvingrove next to the Mother India Cafe on Argyle Street.

As well as a deli which carries chilled food and all the ingredients you might need to have a bash at Indian food, the new place has a 22 seat dining space. Spicy haddock with lentils, lamd cooked with roast peppers and clove-smoked aubergines with chickpeas are the sort of dishes that might be on offer. Cookery demos, tasting sessions and expert advice complete the picture.

Further in towards the centre of town, the Lorne Hotel is gradually re-awakening after an extensive refurbishment. The Bukharah and its menu of healthy Indian food will be the most exciting option for curry fans but the Bilberry Bar is also worth a look.

They have a large but not indiscriminate cocktail list. I seem to be developing a taste for rum so I was chuffed to see that the Bilberry has an entire section of the cocktail menu devoted to daiquiris.

It’s not yet 9am so it’s probably a little early for a Honey Suckle Daiquiri although the blend of light rum, orange blossom honey, freshly squeezed orange with lemon and lime does sound like a breakfast cocktail.
