In this blog posted in April, I set out my top ten Scottish foods and asked for readers’ suggestions as to which grub they thought best represented Scotland. Stovies, Irn Bru and erm, bacon and brown sauce Highlander crisps were all pushed forward.

According to a survey carried out on behalf of the current Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight, the most popular Scottish dish is mince and tatties followed by sirloin steak and then oatcakes. Poor old haggis limps in in eighth place just in front of langoustines and kedgeree. If the survey is right, then two thirds of Scots have never tried either of the last two foods.

1.         Mince and potatoes – 29%

2.         Scotch beef sirloin steak – 28%

3.         Oatcakes – 28%

4.         Scottish raspberries – 27%

5.         Scotch pie – 16%

6.         Scotch broth soup – 15%

7.         Smoked salmon – 11%

8.         Haggis neeps and tatties – 4%

9.         Fresh Scottish langoustines – 2%

10.       Kedgeree – 2%
