The world famous pie trophy

The Moray based Murdoch Brothers have been crowned the eleventh World Scotch Pie Champions at a glittering awards ceremony held at Carnegie College in Dunfermline this afternoon. The Forres butchers add the coveted pie title to more than 50 other awards in regional, national and international competitions.

Previously, the company has come close by winning a gold award for their Scotch pies but now they have reached the pinnacle of pie-making.

Eighty butchers and bakers took part in this year’s event and some of the more unusual entries included a contender for the world’s hottest pie and a vegetarian pie labelled the Five a Day.

In the past, entries have included a Drunken Pig Pie, a penthalon pastie and an entry called Brew Dogs which featured sausages made with a well known Scottish soft drink. Previous champions have seen pie sales increase by a third.
