Open just over a week and already a 5pm member, the Lucky 7 canteen on Glasgow’s Bath Street promises good food and no fuss. They could easily add good value into the slogan without upsetting the trading standards people.

At lunchtime, all their main courses are pegged at £4 while in the evenings, main courses come in at £7. Typical dishes on the evening menu include coq au vin with buttered, boiled spuds and root vegetables or the stovies served with pickled beetroot and Walkers oatcakes.

At lunch, they aim to encourage nearby office workers to stop eating al desko by trying to get main courses on the table within fourteen minutes. The menus change every two to four weeks depending on what is seasonal but the current lunch menu includes dishes such as fish and chips with tartare sauce and the all important pickled onion or the Lucky 7 burger which comes with chunky fries and coleslaw.

Starting from today, the canteen is running a late night menu from 11pm to 3am at the weekends and on Tuesday nights. Hoping to catch trade from Kushion night club which is just below Lucky 7 as well as any passing Bath Street nightlife, the late night menu features simple munchie grub such as beans on toast, pakora and chips ‘n’ cheese.

The food is all sourced locally and prepped from scratch rather than being bought in.
