Yatai's new Bauhaus Hotel home

Over the last few years, Yatai has been quietly making a name for itself as not just the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Aberdeen but in Scotland as a whole. Last year, it won the Best Oriental category at the Scottish Restaurant Awards.

Last weekend, chef John Jones moved Yatai moved from its cosy little home on Skene Street to rather more eye-popping premises in the new Bauhaus Hotel on Langstane Place. As the name suggests, the hotel takes its cue from the famous German design school but the restaurant looks further east for its inspiration. A sunken dining area or kotatsu, a flaming robata grill and a selection of eight different sakes are among the attractions in Yatai’s new HQ. Konichiwa, as they say in Osaka.
