Sensory Dining event
Sensory dining keeps customers in the dark

The kitchens at Santini restaurant in Edinburgh’s Sheraton must be running at full pelt 24/7 judging by the number of special menus, promotions and events that they keep announcing.

Following on from October’s Sicilian menu, their latest promo is for a limited edition Piedmontese menu which features the region’s famous white truffles, a delicacy which has just come into season. Risotto with Parmesan, nutmeg and truffle are among the dishes on offer. The new menu starts on Monday.

We’ve also previously mentioned the Sheraton’s sensory dining events where guests are blindfolded, led into a darkened room and served a surprise menu. Losing the ability to see the food is supposed to heighten the other senses. Previous events have been a success and they are planning another on the 27th of November to celebrate St Andrew’s Day and the end of the Homecoming Year. The only clue to the content of the menu is the theme of ‘popular Scottish favourites with a twist’. The cost of the evening is £60 a head which includes a donation to the Scottish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

A recent idea has been to extend the concept and launch Home Sensory Dining. For £80 a head, a team of chefs and servers will come to your home, blindfold you, cook a six course meal and then serve it to you. They’ll even do the dishes afterwards although you could try doing that yourself while still blindfolded if you really want to get into the spirit of the thing.
