Chef contemplates a check-up
Chef contemplates a check-up

Why wasn’t I suprised by this article in Caterer that finds chef topping a list of the most unhealthy jobs? According to research by a healthcare company, the average chef snacks on twelve bags of crisps, choc bars or biscuits a week, smokes around 58 tabs and drinks eight units of alcohol.

The only surprising thing about these figures is the suspiciously low booze consumption. Apparently GPs automatically double the alcohol consumption estimates offered to them by their patients. I suspect that the chefs queried for this investigation may have taken a little pre-emptive action and massaged the figures they gave to the researchers.

Farmers and electricians follow chefs in the unhealthy stakes while ad reps and teachers are, according to the survey, the most healthy.
