Simon Rimmer dishes up the recipes on EatTheChef

If you have ever watched Jamie, Gordon or Nigella demo a recipe on the box and thought you could do better then a new website gives you the chance to prove it.

The brain child of entrepreneurs Omar Saeed and Paul Finnegan, EatTheChef.com is an online recipe site which allows the UK’s home cooks to upload videos of themselves cooking their favourite dishes. Telly chef Simon Rimmer provides a smattering of videos which show how the professionals do it. If you reckon that you could be the next Hugh FW then get into the kitchen and take your Brownie with you. Just be aware that it isn’t as easy as the pros make it look.

Some of the public’s attempts are very good. Others are less successful and demonstrate that being able to cook might not be the most important part of a celeb chef’s job.

One of the best features of the site is the insight it gives you into other people’s kitchen habits. I liked the fact that Brenda had gone to the bother of putting on a bow tie to make her smoked haddock gratin.

More worrying is Phill15 whose advice on how to cut a pepper is a master piece of seat edge suspense. Cut to the scene where he is sharpening his knife. Will he slice his thumb off or won’t he?
