Perusing a recent “Premises Licence” for a restaurant issued under the new 2005 Licensing Act, (Scotland) I came across a “Local Condition” introduced by Glasgow Licensing Board, under the heading “Protecting Children from Harm”

Quote: “The Premises Licence holder shall ensure that:

  1. While children are in any part of the licensed premises and in particular the toilet area, they should at all times be within the sight of an accompanying adult.

  2. Drinks supplied to children should be served in non-glass containers.”

A “child” is defined by the Act as someone under 16. So your 15 3/4 year old child has to be accompanied to the toilet and has to be served drinks in a plastic tumbler.

I will be interested to see the number of Glasgow restaurants observing this 🙂
