Jamie Oliver: 'Glasgow? Wicked, yeah. Lovely jubbly'

Hats off to The Herald who, at least as far as I can see, scooped everyone with today’s story about Jamie Oliver opening a branch of Jamie’s Italian in the former GPO on Glasgow’s George Square. A 250 seater, the new venture is scheduled to open its doors in May.

The chef has already opened seven Jamie’s Italian restaurants in England and another three English outlets are planned before the first Scottish branch cranks up its fresh pasta machine.

Founded on seasonal produce cooked simply and pasta made fresh each day, the existing outlets have had a critical thumbs-up. In The Times, Giles Coren reckoned it ‘streets ahead of any Italian chain I can think of’ and Metro called it ‘a godsend’. The Telegraph’s Jasper Gerard loved it while his fellow Telegraph reviewer, Zoe Williams, did not, calling it a triumph of egomania.
