This 5pm blogger was tickled by this interview with Marco Pierre White in The Telegraph. Part of their Fame and Fortune strand, it asks people in the public eye about their attitude to money.

Over the course of the fairly lengthy article, Marco shows a haughty disdain for filthy lucre. ‘Firstly, I’m not materialistic,’ the Hell’s Kitchen chef tells us before adding ‘I certainly don’t care about fame or fortune.’

Obviously, I’m quoting very selectively, but he goes on to say that ‘Money now has very little importance in my life’ and, as a saintly aura begins to glow around his tousled hair, he reckons that ‘good friends and family is true wealth.’

Next up is his attitude to investing: ‘While most people invest to make money, I don’t. I invest or start new ventures because I like challenges and I believe in them. I’m a romanticist – all my decisions are born out of this.’

It all sounds hugely commendable until you get to the outro where there is a plug for a new range of kitchen appliances which he has lent his name to. We all have to earn a crust and I have no problem with celeb endorsements but it does jar with the previous 1500 words.
