Camflava: African sunshine for a Scottish winter

Right, I’ve had it with the cold weather. It was fun at first but my energy bills are beginning to arrive and I’m not laughing any more. I’m tempted to go outside and chop up some of the Christmas trees that have been abandoned in the street to use as firewood. I don’t think my fireplace actually works but a few scorch marks can’t be any more depressing than next month’s fuel bills are likely to be.

Bearing all this in mind, I was delighted to stumble across Camflava. Despite blogging earlier about the Queen of Sheba being Glasgow’s only sub-Saharan restaurant, I was wrong. Camflava on Pollokshaws Road is a new African restaurant, bar and cabaret. As well as hosting Scotland’s Miss Africa 2010, Camflava has rather an exotic menu. It’s all new to me but apparently condre is lamb rump cooked with green banana and spices while egusi soup is goat meat cooked with spices and crushed dried prawns. It comes with pounded yam. If that doesn’t make you think of sunnier climes then nothing will.

If fried plantain doesn’t float your boat then these nearby 5pm members offer an alternative. DiMaggio’s can do you a warming plate of meatballs; Ketchup can fill you up with a gourmet burger and the Tapa Coffeehouse has a great rep for its baking.
