Secret supper club meets arts happening

The 5pm blog wrote about underground restaurants a couple of times last year. Seen by some as an inevitable result of the recession and by others as a backlash against conventional restaurants, underground restaurants or secret supper clubs are clandestine dining rooms run by amateur cooks and, less often, by professional chefs keen to dry run potential restaurant concepts.

Although big in London, there was much less of a buzz about them up here. Until now, that is. The List has drawn attention to the Glasgow Guerilla Supper Club which is said to run on the last Saturday of every month from a house in Pollokshields.

Just as intriguing is a new show/secret supper club being organised through 5pm member The Arches. The Glasgow arts venue, restaurant, bar and club is shut for a refurb at the moment but have been running a series of off site events. The next one is called A La Carte and is described as ‘a dinner party with a difference. An interactive performance about the art of dining, it is inspired by evenings around the table with friends, family and strangers. Molly Taylor invites you to come dine with her, and explore what we talk about around the dinner table.’

Ticket price includes a three-course vegetarian meal, and guests are free to bring their own bottle. Audience members will be told the full address on buying a ticket.
