Following on from yesterday’s Food Fight post, Jay Rayner has waded into the ‘poncey food’ debate with a well judged skewering of Jan Moir’s previous article in The Daily Mail.

Moir asserted that she had had a bellyful of cutting edge cuisine. Writing in the Guardian’s Word of Mouth blog, The Oberver’s restaurant critic Rayner pointed out that contrary to hating ‘poncey food’, her restaurant reviews seemed rather fond of it.

I’m sure that like most of 5pm’s readers, I was shocked and dismayed to learn that a journalist might think one thing and write another to stir up controversy or indeed to earn a pay cheque.

Despite my disappointment, I’m eagerly looking forward to the next bout of spatulas at dawn as Moir and Rayner slug it out in their columns.
