The criteria, apart from the restaurant being fabulous, is that it is independently owned and under-rated. In short, he is looking for the sort of undiscovered gem that we all dream about.
Edinburgh’s Chop Chop appeared on the show last year and, although the Chinese restaurant didn’t progress to the next stage, the effect on the business was remarkable.
Its reputation had been gradually spreading for the last few years but, according to the owners, the phones started ringing while The F Word was being broadcast and they haven’t stopped since.
After the kicking Ramsay has received over the last few years, he seems to be rethinking the aggressive image which he presents to the public and championing unsung restaurants is a pretty good way of appearing to be a nice guy.
