Horse is on the menu at L'Escargot Bleu

Edinburgh restaurateur and 5pm member Fred Berkmiller hit the headlines at the weekend when he put horse meat on the menu at his L’Escargot Bleu restaurant.

According to this piece in The Herald, Monsieur Berkmiller has imported an 8.5kg chunk of rump to put on his menu. There seems to be a demand for the meat which was brought in from the Rungis market in Paris.

L’Escargot Bleu has already had sausages containing horse meat on the menu and they quickly sold out.

There are bound to be plenty of neigh-sayers but I don’t have a problem with horse meat. I spent a few months studying in France and horse meat hamburgers were a common sight on the menu at the uni refectory.
