Tony Crolla outside Favorita

Taste of Italy is a new Italian diner which has opened at the top of Leith Walk.

It seems to be the brainchild of Tony Crolla who already runs the popular Vittoria restaurants and the Favorita pizza parlour on Leith Walk.

Taste of Italy is a bright, shiny, buzzing sort of affair that will probably do well with audiences from the nearby Playhouse. There is booth seating at the back where customers can linger over a three courser but I reckon that most people will just come in for a quick bite.

There are burgers and salads and breakfast dishes on the menu but the real draws will be the pasta, panini and pizza.

The pizza come in 10″ and 14″ versions or you can just pick up a slice.

Taste of Italy is in an area that isn’t short of Italian restaurants with several other operators keen to pick up pre and post theatre trade.

However, I suspect that this cheery newcomer will shake things up a bit.
