Steven Adair, formerly of The Tower and The Witchery, has set up a new restaurant in the Fraser Suites Boutique Hotel just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
Called The Glasshouse Off The Mile, the new venture echoes the name of Adair’s most recent restaurant The Glasshouse in Eskmill which closed in February.
Locally grown, seasonal produce is the name of the game with Adair pitching it as ‘We are not about fine dining, it’s all about high quality ingredients and well priced simple food.’
Staying in Edinburgh, The Black Medicine Coffee Co has opened a third branch on Barclay Terrace in Bruntsfield. Java juice anywhich way you want it and free Wifi are the main attractions.
In Glasgow, 5pm is laying out the welcome mat for its latest member the Avenu Cafe. A cosy cafe bar on Carlton Place by the Clyde, it opened in December and has Chris Watson looking after the kitchen. The menu changes daily but typical dishes might include Cumberland sausage and mash, seafood risotto and that old fave, baked spuds.
