Having proved rather popular since it opened in February 2009, Assam’s Indian Restaurant has expanded out from its West Regent Street home in Glasgow’s city centre and opened a new place in East Kilbride.

Tamarind Lounge on Hunter Street is the second restaurant for Asam Rashid and it would seem that he has very firm plans for a  third in Glasgow’s West End.

Fourteen years spent being the right hand man at Monir Mohammed’s empire of Mother India restaurants have obviously not been wasted on Asam.

As soon as any Glasgow restaurateur has more than one Indian place in the city then it is traditional for the press to start speculating on whether or not the entrepreneur in question could become the next Curry King, a fictional position which has attained almost mythical status among newspaper hacks.

We may as well get in early and, just as soon as we’ve worked out who the current one is, then we’ll declare Asam Rashid the next Curry King in waiting.

Remember folks, you read it here first. It may turn out to be nonsense but it was here first.
