Whisky Nosing in Speyside

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is limbering up for its annual spree at the end of April.

It runs from Thursday 29th April to Monday 3rd May and is a must visit for anyone who thinks that a week has been wasted if there hasn’t been at least a little snifter enjoyed somewhere along the way.

There are over 230 different events on over the five days and they include distillery tours, whisky masterclasses, guided whisky walks and landrover tours to ceilidhs, a musical, canoe trips, cooperage tours, live music, poetry sessions, free events and locally organised family friendly activities.

Hardcore whisky fans might enjoy the chance to take a peek behind the scenes at distilleries which are usually closed to the public such as Mortlach, Benrinnes and Tomintoul distilleries.

Those who don’t get so excited by the delicate curve of a condensing pipe might prefer to learn more about the spirit’s role as an ingredient or accompaniment. Workshops looking at the relationship between whisky and chocolate to whisky and sausages will run throughout the Festival, with a number of distilleries hosting lunches and dinners featuring menus designed to complement the contents of their casks.
