The terrifying sight of a Nepalese yeti

I’ve just stumbled across a new place in Edinburgh which may well have the best name ever. It’s a Nepalese restaurant and takeaway in Newington which rejoices in the fantastic handle of Yak and Yeti.

Just as your porn star name is supposed to be a mix of the name of your first pet plus the street you grew up in (I’d be Raj Morlich which seems unlikely), the Yak & Yeti appears to be named after Nepal’s most famous animal and its most enduring legend.

Could it spark a wave of similarly named ventures? Might we see the Hieland Coo and Haggis or, for an Aussie-themed joint, the ‘Roo and Bunyip?

Whimsical musing aside, Yak and Yeti looks interesting. The menu has plenty of familiar dishes like chicken korma and vindaloo but also has Nepalese specialities like the Mo-mo starters, a sort of dumpling, and the Himalayan Chilli Special which is chicken breast cooked in chef’s ‘secret blend of spicy’.
