The man behind the Mr Snax blog

Scotland’s restaurant scene has been coming to life along with the recent Spring weather.

In Glasgow, Elia Greek Restaurant is finding its feet after opening on George Square next to the Wetherspoons pub. The 120 seater is serving up classic Greek dishes alongside crowd-pleasers such as pasta and burgers.

In Edinburgh, the basement restaurant and bar premises at 23a Leopold Place seems set to change again. It’s been an Italian, a Thai and a Scottish restaurant over the last few years.

Currently, it is operating as The Hill and is promoting itself as a bar that serves Thai food.

The List reports that the premises will soon be rebranded with what is possibly the most tongue in cheek name ever: Love You Long Thai anyone?

Again in Edinburgh, we are delighted to report two new ventures. The first is the opening of Bollywood Bites, an Indian takeaway and small cafe which has set up shop in the Canonmills area.

Your correspondent found about the place via a new blog by Ian Cowie, a former BBC employee whose Mr Snax nickname is also the name of his blog.

Sticking with Edinburgh and Indian restaurants, Amani is a new Punjabi restaurant on Leith’s Bernard Street which has opened with a bang.

A bar as well as a restaurant, it offers cocktails with a Persian twist, shisha pipes and a range of menus that take in everything from a fusion lunch menu of madrasi mussels and paella to a main menu that includes Medina mackerel fillets.

It all looks very different from the more trad Indian restaurant. You can Facebook ’em here.

Meanwhile, we’ve heard reports that 5pm members Cafe Andaluz, already operating successfully in Glasgow and Edinburgh, are to open in Aberdeen.
