This 5pm blogger has just got back from his honeymoon (it was lovely, thank you) so there have been a couple of recent events which are worth picking up on.

First up is that The List magazine’s incredibly useful Eating and Drinking Guide came out last week. Now in its 17th annual edition, I reckon that it is pretty much invaluable for anyone interested in the Central Belt’s restaurant scene.

It covers a little under a thousand different restaurants, bars, cafes and so on and they range from the well established such as The Tower to places which are on the very brink of opening their doors for the first time.

As part of the launch, The List handed out awards to several restaurants which have made an impact over the last year and, in some cases, over the last twenty years.

Congrats to Glasgow’s Dining Room and Cookie which both scooped glory in the city’s Newcomer of the Year section. In Edinburgh, that award went to Roy Brett’s Ondine and The Water of Leith Cafe Bistro.

A special award went to Fran and Tim James who have been selling beautiful Scottish seafood at their Creelers restaurant in Edinburgh since the Eighties.

The influential Readers’ Awards went to the two Urban Angel Restaurants in Edinburgh abd the laid-back Lebowski’s Bar in Glasgow.

The Eating and Drinking Guide is on sale now at £5.95.
