The Rutland's Bru-Hattan

Stuff the election. Today’s really important news is that the World Cocktail Week kicks off now.

Rather like the World Baseball series, it seems to be a mostly American affair but that hasn’t stopped the mixologists at The Rutland in Edinburgh from coming up with some intriguing concoctions for their new cocktail menu which also launches today.

Andy Thompson, a twelve year veteran of the Edinburgh cocktail scene, is the presumably slightly fuzzy brains behind the new cocktail menu.

A couple of the inventions have a distictly local flavour.

The Bru-Hattan uses our old friend Irn Bru to smooth out the classic Manhattan while the Ginge-tini is not a playground insult aimed at redheads but a vodka Martini flavoured with ginger and garnished with a fiery red chilli.

The new cocktail menu ranges in price from £5.95 to £12.95 for champagne cocktails. The new menu coincides with the launch of three new Cockail Master Class packages at The Rutland ranging from £25 – £59 per person.

It has been a busy period for The Rutland recently. Last month it was awarded the Boutique Hotel of the Year, Chef Medaille D’Or for head chef David Haetzman, and Wine List of the Year at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2010.
