Jean Christophe and Nick do some bonding

If I stand on a chair, I can just about see the Taste of Edinburgh site in Inverleith Park from my window and, from where I’m standing, it would appear to bathed in early morning sunshine.

Since my windows were being battered with hail at one point yesterday evening, I suspect that Taste’s organisers must have been up all night performing whatever is the opposite of a raindance.

If you haven’t been before then Taste is a large open air food and drink festival.

Top chefs such as Jean Christophe-Novelli, Giorgio Locatelli, Tom Kitchin, Rachel Allen and Alan Murchison will be doing cookery demos and there will be stalls from small food producers such as Arran Ales as well as from major companies such as AEG and Glenfiddich.

Just over a dozen restaurants will be setting up camp at Taste and producing a selection of their signature dishes. Look out for 5pm members such as The Rutland, Amber, Centotre, Cucina, Malmaison, Hotel Du Vin and Tony’s Table.

I’m off to the opening session of the Festival. Nick Nairn is going to do something clever with asparagus and chervil at the AEG-Electrolux kitchen and I suspect that myself and fellow journos will be called upon to spill stuff on their shiny new induction hobs.

Assuming that I’m not too dopey after a lunchtime glass of fizz then I’ll report back later this afternoon.
