The heat rises at the World Cocktail Cup

Your favourite team may or may not still be in the football World Cup.

To any readers who follow the England team, this blogger offers his genuine commiserations but I was still tickled by the joke suggestion that the returning England team’s plane was to be diverted to Glasgow so that they could receive a hero’s welcome.

Anyway, if cocktails rather than football float your boat then head to Treacle on Edinburgh’s Broughton Street for this afternoon’s regional round of the 42 Below Cocktail World Cup.

Top mixologists from around Scotland, including talent from 5pm member Amicus Apple, will be competing to see if they can advance towards the national and then international stages of the compettition.

Featuring representatives from Edinburgh’s Bon Vivant, Tigerlilly and Bramble, last year’s Scottish contingent were beaten by Team Belfast at the national final but hopes are high for Scotland’s chances this year.

If the sight of all that cocktail shaking leads to a munchies attack then 5pm members Hawke and Hunter, L’Escargot Bleu, the Terrace Brasserie and Urban Angel are all within an easy five minute walk of Treacle.
